The Issue Addressed

An estimated 500 million lack access to menstrual products and adequate facilities for menstrual hygiene management.

Health

Lack of access to menstrual health education and supplies can lead to health challenges including urinary and genital infections and unmanaged menstrual pain.

Education

Approximately 12 million girls miss 20% of school monthly due to menstruation.

Economics

Girls who drop out of school have limited employment opportunities and often marry early and begin bearing children, further reducing their options for earning income.

Today I’ve learned how to use reusable pads and cloth during periods; the reproductive system in a woman; how to keep myself clean during my periods. This training makes me feel great, strong, bold, and beautiful.

The best thing about coming to school is this user-friendly latrine. For the past couple of years, us girls didn’t enjoy school due to the poor sanitation conditions. It was very challenging to stay at school when we were menstruating. No bathroom, no privacy, it was all a mess. Many of us actually missed out on school on such days. Today, we are happy and comfortable.

The first time I menstruated, I was scared my liver was damaged and flowing out into small particles. I’ve missed school because of menstruation, and I never understand the topics taught when I’m not there. Now I know that menstruation is normal, natural, and is not an infection.
