For the second year in a row, HydroPoint and Surge for Water have joined forces to bring safe water, sanitation, hygiene, and menstrual health solutions to schools and communities in Uganda. Thanks to HydroPoint’s generous support, 3,938 people—including students, teachers, and families—now have access to life-changing Water+ solutions across Amolatar, Kaberamaido, and Kalaki Districts. This milestone reflects the deep impact of a corporate partnership that prioritizes sustainability, community ownership, and women leaders.
1,242 people in Achilo B Community now have safe water!
Achilo B Community was defined by water scarcity. The word achilo translates to English as dirt, and the community was named Achilo B Community because many community members couldn’t bathe due to the lack of water.
For their daily drinking water, families here had no choice but to collect water from open springs shared with animals. The nearest source of safe water was 2 kilometers away, a journey that could take several hours.

Working with local leaders and community members, we were able to drill a new well, bringing safe water to 1,242 people! Community members played a central role in construction, ensuring ownership and sustainability for years to come. With this well, families can now focus on education, income, and health instead of spending hours in search of water.
“I am very proud that at last my village now also has safe and clean water.” — Obwate Emikairi, 62 years old

1,132 students at Abalodyang Primary School now have decent toilets!
Abalodyang Primary School struggled with inadequate toilet facilities. Cracked floors, sinking structures, and the lack of privacy drove many children to practice open defecation in and around the school grounds. Girls, especially those who began menstruating, often dropped out of school because there were no safe washrooms.
HydroPoint changed this reality by funding the construction of boys’ and girls’ toilet blocks, supporting 1,131 students. Today, children have clean, private, and safe facilities—including handwashing stations and an incinerator for reusable pads—that restore dignity and encourage school attendance.
“I’m so glad for the toilet because it has a good washroom where we can bathe comfortably. It even has an incinerator attached to it to drop our reusable pads and burn later.” — Atim Joan, Primary 6 student
A subset of students also learned to make soap, boosting hygiene at the school and in the surrounding community.

Comprehensive Water+ Solutions in Schools
Beyond the well and toilets, HydroPoint’s partnership extended to surrounding schools, delivering comprehensive Water+ solutions:
- 612 students at Adonkweru Primary School received classroom water filters
- 417 students at Kibimo Primary School and 265 at Abata Primary School participated in WASH training
- 51 girls at Abata Primary School received menstrual health education and learned how to make reusable pads
These programs not only improve health but also uplift students—especially girls—to stay in school and thrive.

A Partnership Creating Lasting Change
HydroPoint’s commitment to investing in Water+ solutions is transforming the daily lives of thousands of people in Uganda and creating a future where children can stay in school and families can prosper. With every well drilled, toilet constructed, and training delivered, HydroPoint and Surge prove that corporate partnerships can create systemic, lasting change.
This partnership is not only improving lives today. It is paving the way for healthier, more dignified, and hopeful futures.
