Liquid I.V.® awards $200,000 to Surge for Water to bring clean water solutions to remote communities in Indonesia

Liquid I.V., the #1 powdered hydration brand in America, is proud to announce its first-ever initiative in Indonesia through an impactful partnership with Surge for Water, a global women-led, community driven nonprofit dedicated to providing sustainable water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH) solutions. This collaboration will transform water access in Sumba Tengah, Indonesia, impacting over 10,400 individuals, including students, teachers, and local villagers.

As part of this partnership, Liquid I.V. will donate $200,000 to Surge for Water to fund the implementation of 31 rainwater harvesting systems, four motorized wells, and the installation of 228 locally produced water purification filters across 76 elementary schools. As a result, every elementary school in Sumba Tengah, one of Indonesia’s most underserved regions, will have access to clean water. These efforts align with Surge’s holistic, women-centered approach, ensuring sustainable solutions that uplift communities and improve quality of life.

“We believe that access to clean water is a fundamental human right and we’re committed to delivering hydration where it’s needed most,” said Jayce Newton, Director of Impact. “Partnering with leading humanitarian and community-based organizations to fund water access projects is at the core of our mission and we’re honored to collaborate with Surge for Water to bring life-changing water access to communities in need.”

Through this initiative, Surge will also conduct comprehensive training programs on the maintenance of water systems, prioritizing community ownership and sustainability. By connecting with local organizations and stakeholders, a ripple effect of health, education, and economic improvements will be felt across the region.

“We are deeply grateful for Liquid I.V.’s generous support. This partnership is a significant step forward in our long-term mission of ending the water crisis in some of the world’s most remote and vulnerable communities, as well as our more immediate goal of reaching 1 million people across ten districts in Uganda, Haiti and Indonesia by 2030,” said Shilpa Alva, Founder and Executive Director of Surge for Water. “Together, we are not only providing clean water but also investing in the future of women and children, helping them lead healthier, more productive lives.”

The project will span one year, from December 2024 to November 2025, with phased implementation to ensure effectiveness and long-term success. This collaboration underscores both organizations’ commitment to addressing water scarcity and advancing global equity.

I’m passionate about Surge’s mission to provide clean water to those most in need. It’s touching to hear the experiences of our team who’ve witnessed and contributed first-hand solutions to the communities Surge works in. As the mother of Surge’s founder, it is extra-special to see my daughter’s vision and hard work come to life and make a difference in so many lives. I’m also happy to apply my strong organizational and administration skills from my 35-year career in the oil industry towards Surge.

I want my life to be about the positive impact that I make on other people’s lives. I’m blessed and I’m compelled to use my blessings to help other people; this is why I’m a part of Surge. Traveling to Uganda with Surge changed my life. Every day, I see the faces of the beautiful people we met, and it gives me the drive to do what I can for them. As a professional interior designer, it was an honor to use my talents to create and help launch Surge’s annual UAE gala and design competition: Design, Dine, Make a Difference. It’s been a surreal experience to see the interior design industry come together to support our cause, and thus change the lives of communities around the world.

We’re so lucky to not have to think about the safety of our water. No one should have their future limited by access to safe water and sanitation. I dedicate my time to this cause because of the inspiring way Surge integrates with communities and becomes a part of them to solve this global issue. I know we are making a sustainable difference. Professionally, I’m an administrator and an organizer, and I apply these skills to to my work with Surge — where I get things working better and more efficiently. In my free time, you’ll find me at a fencing tournament.

I’ve ended up where I am because I have the passion and will to help the poor, needy, vulnerable, voiceless and invisible people especially women, children and the youth. My personal mission is to empower women, youth, orphans and vulnerable children to realize their full potentials for sustainable livelihoods. Surge is a Great, Reliable, Flexible and passionate partner. Before Surge, much of POPOW’s ideas remained in the book with no funds or additional ideas to bring them to reality. We were like a bird without wings to fly. We are so grateful and appreciative of Surge’s immense, invaluable support. Together, we’ve transformed and changed lives.
